About the Solar X-ray status monitor
The X-ray Solar status monitor downloads data periodically from the NOAA Space Environment Center FTP server.  The previous 24 hours of 5 minute Long-wavelength X-ray data from each satellite (GOES 8 and GOES 10) is analyzed, and an appropriate level of activity for the past 24 hours is assigned as follows:

	Quiet: the Geomagnetic Field is quiet (Kp < 4)
	Active: Solar X-ray flux is active (>= 1.00e-6 W/m^2)
	M Class Flare: An M Class flare has occurred (X-ray flux >= 1.00e-5 W/m^2)
	X Class Flare: An X Class flare has occurred (X-ray flux >= 1.00e-4 W/m^2)
	Mega Flare: An unprecedented X-ray event has occurred (X-ray flux >= 1.00e-3 W/m^2)

What Do These Flares Do?

X-CLASS FLARES:  Major event with the potential to trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms.

M-CLASS FLARES:  Medium-sized, generally causing brief radio blackouts affecting Earth's polar regions. Minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare. 

C-CLASS FLARES:  Compared to X- and M-class events, C-Class flares are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth.

About the Geomagnetic Field status monitor
The Geomagnetic Field status monitor downloads data periodically from the NOAA Space Environment Center FTP server.  The previous 24 hours of 3 hour Planetary Kp Index data is analyzed and an appropriate level of activity for the past 24 hours is assigned as follows:

	Quiet: the Geomagnetic Field is quiet (Kp < 4)
	Active: the Geomagnetic Field has been unsettled (Kp=4)
	Storm: A Geomagnetic Storm has occurred (Kp>4)

Soak Up Some Nutrients This Summer  by Dr. Christiane Northrup  I told my [newsletter] subscribers about a shift going on in the medical community due to research conducted recently on vitamin D supplementation.  Studies have shown that most Americans are not getting enough vitamin D despite its health promoting qualities-this important nutrient can protect you from diabetes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and can help treat depression naturally. Further, adequate intake of vitamin D lowers your risk of breast, ovarian, prostate, and colorectal cancers.  Many people don't realize that calcium can't be absorbed by the body unless there is enough vitamin D in the blood stream. This is one of the reasons vitamin D is essential to bone health. Luckily, your body was designed to get all the vitamin D it needs by getting enough sunlight. Here's my sunlight prescription: Start slowly with sun exposure on as much of your skin as possible.  Don't allow any reddening of the skin to occur.  Sunbathe only in the early morning or late afternoon sun. Avoid midday sun. Work up to 10-15 minutes 3-4 times per week. Note: The amount of sun exposure necessary to raise vitamin D levels varies with the amount of pigment in the skin. Dark skinned individuals have to stay out in the sun longer than redheads with fair skin! The kind of brief exposure I'm recommending will not increase your risk of skin cancer. It will enhance your health on many levels instead. However, if you decide to take vitamin D supplements instead, make sure to get 800-5,000 IUs per day.  Researchers have also determined that vitamin D is far less toxic than once thought, and suggest that the Food and Nutrition Board adjust their "safe limits" accordingly. I hope that the word gets out soon!
